SOUTHLAKE RESIDENCE
Project Description
SPSD collaborated with Lou Simmons, NeatBuilt Architect, on the program and design for the outdoor spaces. The client wanted a modern home set back off the main road. The goal was to privatize the home from the street by creating a landscape berm along the front part of the property that was packed with Texas-native accents. The property features a new cobblestone motor court that leads you to the front of the house. Here you will find a koi pond uniquely tucked into the home’s entry. Along with these unique features, corten steel step risers, privacy fins, and modern picket fencing are utilized throughout the property to tie to the rustic, modern vernacular seen throughout the property. The landscape palette chosen for the property doesn’t stray far from the surrounding native landscape. Large canopy trees, flowering ornamental trees, and sculpture pieces were chosen to either terminate or accentuate views out of the house. The views of the property are stunning with an immense amount of Heritage Live and Post Oaks blanketing the natural edges. This modern home boasts tranquil views to the pasture with a beautiful existing horse barn set off in the distance. A dry creek bed meandering from the home down to the existing pond helps to provide a subtle connection between the built environment and nature.
